In consulting with Tamara for psychological assessment, whether for your child or yourself, you can expect a warm, respectful, and affirming approach. Comprehensive, holistic reports are provided, with personalised insights and recommendations.

Additionally, as part of the testing process, functional assessment and mental health evaluations are also available to inform planning for NDIS capacity-building, therapeutic intervention and/or educational support. Assessments for diagnostic purposes are available for ages five and over.

The initial step involves a thorough exploration of the needs and background of your child or yourself. This enables selection of the most appropriate tests to align with your desired outcomes. Available instruments include cognitive and learning assessments (such as the Wechsler tests, including the WISC-V and WIAT-III) and approaches such as the MIGDAS-2 interview for autism evaluation.

An extensive array of questionnaires and executive functioning tests are also drawn upon to ensure a process that is both individualised and well-rounded.

About Tamara

Tamara focuses upon psychological assessments aimed at uncovering valuable insights related to neurodivergence, including Autism and ADHD, cognitive abilities, giftedness, and learning challenges. Her private psychology practice commenced on the Sunshine Coast in 2009. She is now based in Brisbane.

Her career began as a classroom teacher, and she soon became a specialist teacher for gifted and talented students. She played a pivotal role in establishing gifted education programmes at two independent Sunshine Coast schools. She has also coordinated student support and taught accelerated and extension classes at leading independent schools in Brisbane.

In addition, Tamara provided school-based guidance services for several years and she has worked with students of all ages. She is experienced in identifying young people with mental health concerns, neurodivergence, gifts and talents, and learning difficulties. This background enables her to provide informed, practical, and personalised educational recommendations tailored to support your child.

Session Information & FAQs

How long will the session take?

THE DURATION of each assessment session is generally between 1.5 and 2 hours. It is suggested that you let your child know what will occur during the session and focus on the positive outcome:

E.g. - "You will be working with a psychologist / teacher / educator (whatever is age and stage appropriate!) to find out your learning strengths. There will be puzzles and blocks to play with, and it will be a really fun and enjoyable experience."

Does my child need to prepare anything?

NO SPECIAL PREPARATION is required prior to assessment. To ensure reliable and valid evaluation of abilities, cognitive and academic assessments are commenced in the morning. This is typically when examinees are more alert and are more likely to perform to their potential. A good sleep the night prior to testing is of course ideal, as is a nutritious breakfast (even if small). You are also welcome to bring a snack and a drink for your child on the testing day. If your child wears glasses for reading, please ensure they bring them.

How long will it take to receive the report or results?

A REPORT FEEDBACK SESSION will be scheduled for a few weeks after assessment completion. The written report will include an outline and interpretation of findings, an analysis of the holistic context, and resultant personalised recommendations and suggestions. Recommendations typically address methods to support and enhance education experiences, and ways to improve everyday functioning in areas of relevance.
